Coming to the fore at a time in which the world of Hip Hop was dominated with baseless tales of opulent wealth, gun-toting glamorisations of societal ills and boastful claims of sexual prowess from America, Birmingham’s Mike Skinner was a breath of fresh albeit smoky air. Documenting a life of underclass misadventures, fast food diets, insecurities, overpriced clubs and potent narcotics, Original Pirate Material left no doubt that “The Streets” were a rare irreplicable proposition that enlightened, engrossed and unhinged within the same breath. It´s no coincident that HDSN draws inspiration from Skinner and his talent to take his view on life and make it more relatable to people like him. He says: “Music like this is like my church, my university, my hub, my wikipedia.” it´s invisible to the most because it´s transmitted between the lines of nowadays polluted modern music landscape but these sounds were right there and i have been raised by them. So I would say “Lock Down Your Aerial” is kind of my tribute to urban music, something Britain has always been famous for, and the significant role that it played and still does in my life today."
